10k and close to green

By Skip

Beautiful Saturday morning! Slept in a little and then headed out to get my run on. Since I was only 10 miles from my green color level, I had that in the back of my head but I really, really didn’t want to injure myself.

So started off down the road and was feeling pretty good so decided to do a 10K.  Have not done that in a while and thought it would help build my endurance a little bit.

I was listening, unfortunately to a 10K training audio track that was only about 30 minutes long and could not change things mid-run so had to listen to it twice!  Oh well… probably would have run a little faster if it would have been music I was more into.

I started to feel my ankle a little bit about 3/4 of the way through the run.  Hoping this won’t be a problem again.  I am SOOOO tempted to get out there later today or tomorrow morning to run a 5K because that will put me to the next color level on the Nike+ website… and as you can tell, that is a BIG deal for me!  Ended up shaving about 45 seconds off of my previous 10K time and did it today in 53’22”.

Trying to get my buddy Sebastian signed up to the Nike+ program as well.  He made a comment on Facebook the other day that he ran a 5K in under 20 minutes… YIKES!  If that is true, I have a LOOONNNGGGG ways to go.  However, he is younger than me, so that counts for something, right?  Still, he was just gauging his distance by some posts that were setup around the course he was running so don’t really know how accurate they are.  Then again, if anybody can amaze me with his will power and strength, it is Seb!  He has been doing this “Body For Life” program for as about as long as I know him and he is in amazing physical condition.

So, next time out, 5K and GREEEEEEN FOR ME!!!

So if you have read any of the blog thus far you know a little bit about me… I can not be told what to do and I push myself about as far as I can be pushed!

But how did I get here and why? Well, that is what this page is about.

I was never really the athletic type. Sure, I played tennis in high school (and quite well, mind you) but running CERTAINLY was never my thing!

The start of 2009 was big for me as I came to the realization that I had put on too much weight over the past 10 years (read more...)
