9 Days and counting

By Skip

….to my first 5k. It is exciting and yet exhausting. My biggest dilemma right now is coming up with a workout schedule leading up to the race. I need to exercise enough to stay in shape but not too much to make me sore or even worse yet, injured.

And yet my goal is to become FASTER before next Saturday….. How do I do all of this? I guess that is the million dollar question.

I ran a decent time today….. I really think there are a couple of songs in my play list that I need to swap out…. They seem to be a little bit slow and it is affecting my overall time. I currently rely heavily on the cadence / BPM of my songs to keep me on pace…. So if they are off, I will be off.

Then again, it is the same play list I was using last week when I did it in 23’54″……. Hmmmmmm

All in all, felt pretty good today. I did 11 miles on the stationary bike last night just to keep up the breathing and cardio. Thought my legs might be a little sore this morning but all was good.

By the way, ever since I started drinking Gatorade before my run instead of coffee, my side stitches have gone away!

About

So if you have read any of the blog thus far you know a little bit about me… I can not be told what to do and I push myself about as far as I can be pushed!

But how did I get here and why? Well, that is what this page is about.

I was never really the athletic type. Sure, I played tennis in high school (and quite well, mind you) but running CERTAINLY was never my thing!

The start of 2009 was big for me as I came to the realization that I had put on too much weight over the past 10 years (read more...)
