A decent 5k

Happy Easter everybody!

So getting out there today was an easy task.  I so wanted to get my run on and I did.  I ended up with a pace of around 8’00”.    The funny part is that I was manually checking my time and pace when my iPhone was trying to tell me that my run had ended.  I checked again and realized I had run about .1k further.

One thing I think I would like to concentrate a little bit more on is getting into a jog before and after the scheduled run.  To date I have been walking to my starting point and walking back when I am finished.  I think if I did a slow jog instead I might be better off and maybe avoid further injury in the future.

I am also a little confused about the calorie consumption.  It seems to be pretty close to the same regardless if I am walking or running.  I know this can not be the case.  I also realized that I never calibrated my device so that probably has something to do with it.

In order to get proper calorie consumption, I think I need to work off of a device that monitors my heart rate and will make its calculation upon that.  Something like a Garmin Forerunner or something like that.

So in the meantime I will keep plugging away and try to decrease my pace to get it in the 7’45” range or so.  I think if I can do that over the next few weeks I will make some good strides.  I am happy with my progress thus far.

I was never really the athletic type. Sure, I played tennis in high school (and quite well, mind you) but running CERTAINLY was never my thing!
