A nightmare of a triathlon… literally!

By Skip

They say that when you are learning another language and you start dreaming in that language, your mind has bridged that gap and you are probably now fluent in that language.  Last night I had a triathlon nightmare… literally.  Certainly I am not saying I am fluent in triathlons and I don’t know about bridging the gap but the concept of it all is deeply embedded in my head, obviously.

In my “previous life” I was an entertainer…. no really, I was.  My recurring dream back then was that the show would start, the curtains would open and the show would not be ready or we were setting up as the show was going on so there was always the pressure of trying to keep up with what was going on onstage.

That was pretty much the scenario of my dream last night.  I was about to do my first triathlon and I arrived late.  I was always trying to catch up with the rest of the group.  I had forgotten my race numbers (I had about 20 of them to affix all over my body and equipment) and a friend of mine(Hoy… it was you!) was trying to help me improvise.  When the race started, I would finish the swim and everybody was leaving the transition area for the bike… I was ALWAYS one step behind everybody else.  Finally, the race director (she was a nasty person!?) told me I could not continue because there was no more room for me in the transition area.  When I asked for my money back I was denied and she told me this would also affect my USAT ranking since I would be disqualified for not finishing.

What the heck?  Is this actually a good sign or a bad sign?  I don’t know which way to interpret it but it was crazy.  I am going to mark it off as a positive sign that my whole body and mind is into what I am trying to accomplish.  With commitments from sponsors and races scheduled for this year and next, I have a long exciting road ahead of me.  I just hope this is not a premonition for August 15th.

Off to the pool tonight for some V02 max drills…. Hopefully I will be reporting later on, as long as the weather cooperates!

So if you have read any of the blog thus far you know a little bit about me… I can not be told what to do and I push myself about as far as I can be pushed!

But how did I get here and why? Well, that is what this page is about.

I was never really the athletic type. Sure, I played tennis in high school (and quite well, mind you) but running CERTAINLY was never my thing!

The start of 2009 was big for me as I came to the realization that I had put on too much weight over the past 10 years (read more...)
