A pre-race ride and my final preperations

We drove up to the race location today which was about an hour and a half drive.  We picked up my race packet and headed to a friends house to settle in…. Sure beats having to stay in a hotel room!   Once we unpacked, I took the car and drove back to the race location and drove the bike and the run route.  The one thing that I was very, very happy about is that it was as flat as it could be!

I parked the car, unloaded the bike and headed out to actually ride the course.  It really was flat!  I was not hallucinating this when I was in the car.  There is no excuse for a slow bike tomorrow…. unless the wind picks up.  I say that because as I was riding the course, I felt a small breeze for most of the route and then I hit a stretch of road that went from West to East.  I hit a pretty stiff wind blowing from the ocean and I hit it head on.  If that is the case tomorrow, really there is only one stretch that I need to think about.

When I finished my route I was confused as it showed that I only went 7 miles.  I thought this might be a glitch since it was suppose to be a 10 mile route.  I later looked it up and there was one of the sections that I should have repeated which would have added the extra 3 miles.  It always helps to know the route before you race it…. I realize that it is not always possible but it is a good idea if at all possible.  I now know, mentally, when to kick it in and “what is around the next corner.”

The course around Tradition is very strange but very cool. You should look it up on the Internet as it has an interesting history… not a long history, since it was built in 2003.  Flourishing developments surrounded by abandoned developments.  The roads are very peaceful and I could just vision all of us out there tomorrow fighting our way through the course.

We spent the rest of the day out with our friends taking a tour of the area…. I really like it around here!  Very different from the rest of Florida.  We then went out for dinner where I was able to get some carbs in the form of a great seafood pasta dish that I had.  Very tasty and I made sure I did not over eat.  I think I will be just fine, nutrition wise, for tomorrow.

Headed to bed early tonight as it will be an early morning.  Once again, my goal is to cross the finish line in under one hour…. I keep posting it here on the blog…. not to boast but to motivate myself.  If I put it out there for others to read, I better live up to their expectations.

I was never really the athletic type. Sure, I played tennis in high school (and quite well, mind you) but running CERTAINLY was never my thing!
