A slow beginning to a long season

By Skip

After my last post I bet many of you out there are surprised I even went out running today.  It is amazing how quickly my leg bounced back but it is still only at about 50%.   I DID go out enough to do my second day of training to help get my wife through her c25k program.  I had planned to go out and do 4 miles after that but I was barely able to get through this simple workout.  Yesterday, however, I was hobbling around so I consider this a very big step.

So I decided to bypass my regular workout and come home and ice up the knee again.  I figure that I will be able to get out tomorrow morning.  I think if I am smart about things, I should be able to get through all of this without missing too much of a beat.  The key to the next 5 and a half weeks will be to get the distance training in without the injuries.

Another thing I need to consider is my shoes.  It has been a while since I replaced them (and I have the miles to prove it!) and think it is time for a new pair.  I had really wanted to transition to Newtons BUT I wanted to do that in the “off season.”  Well, that season has come and gone and here I am in that awkward position once again.  Given my recent injury I am now VERY hesitant to change to that style of shoe considering many people end up having injuries BECAUSE of shoes like that.

Arrrrrggggghhhhh…… Always a mind game and a battle of some kind!  I will be very interested to see how tomorrow’s workout pans out, as I am sure you are.

About

So if you have read any of the blog thus far you know a little bit about me… I can not be told what to do and I push myself about as far as I can be pushed!

But how did I get here and why? Well, that is what this page is about.

I was never really the athletic type. Sure, I played tennis in high school (and quite well, mind you) but running CERTAINLY was never my thing!

The start of 2009 was big for me as I came to the realization that I had put on too much weight over the past 10 years (read more...)
