Always stick to your running plan

I stepped out the door this morning and the humidity and heat hit me like a brick wall!  I couldn’t believe how “thick” it was outside.  I knew I was going to sweat this morning!  Heck, I wasn’t three feet out the door before a bead of sweat formed on my forehead.

As I headed out I had planned on running my normal block run… the one that keeps me in pace for my overall progress.  I do this route at least once a week as it lets me know how I stand.  As I started out, about 1 mile into it, I switched things up and took a right instead of a left…..  a new direction!  NOW, I am mentally figuring out where I should go from here and how long I would be running for.  You see, this would dictate my pace. 

By the time I figured out how far I was going to run I just ran a really slow pace and finished off with a sprint somewhere in the middle.  Kind of a waste of a workout other than burning off calories and keeping up my endurance.

My point?  Make a running plan, know it well and STICK TO IT!

On another note, I was very bad this weekend.  It started off with pizza on Saturday and cevapi on Sunday.  Of course I had to mix a few beers in there as well.  What is cevapi you might be asking yourself?  Well, I discovered this WONDERFUL food while I was in Croatia.  I don’t think it is a national food but everybody eats it there.  It is a mixed meat rolled into little sausages and then served with warm, oil soaked pita bread.  AND you can’t forget the french fries, right?

 So the scale didn’t really like me this morning but all in all I was able to maintain the overall weight by planning around these meals.  I worked my butt off on Saturday so burned off enough calories there to make up for it. 

Finally, I know I keep saying this and sounding like a broken record but I HAVE TO calibrate my Nike+ foot pod.  This morning my Garmin read 4.06 miles VS 3.66 miles on the iPhone.  I am 98% confident in the Garmin.  This would explain quite a bit about my official speed at the races I have done.  When I DO finally synchronize, I wonder if it will recalculate all of my previous runs?  I wonder if it will show me the actual miles I ran?  I have been training longer distances and running them faster than what my equipment had been showing me.  Heck, that is a good problem, right?  I would hate to have it the other way around!!
