And so the training begins….

By Skip

I am excited!  Today starts a whole new year of triathlons, duathlons, 5k, 10k, half marathon races, etc, etc.  And do you know what my first day of training consists of?  RELAXING!  That’s right, I love it when the training plan starts off with a day of nothing.  Gives you the reality of what lies ahead and yet gives you time to prepare your calendar for the year.

As you can see, I have been pretty quiet on the blog over the past week or two.  I have been seriously resting my knee and foot.  I HAVE been going out with my wife every other day to assist her in the C25K program she is on but other than that I have stayed off of my right leg.

As of right now, my leg and knee feel 100%…. YEAH!  However, with IT band syndrome, from what I hear, it tends to come back on a very predictable schedule.  I am less than 3 weeks away from my half marathon and can not run more than 2 miles right now… yikes!

I have new shoes… did I tell you that yet?  Actually I have quite a bit to tell you about….. including the fact that I am going to be doing a video blog for this website.  I am not quite sure if it will end up replacing my written word or just in addition to that.  I wanted to pre-warn you about that so it didn’t throw you off next time you came to this site.  I will be using it as a training tool and motivator for my preperation to Alcatraz.

I have some big plans for 2012 and 2013 so I might just continue to use the video blog as my communication tool… we will see.  Let me know what you would like to see / hear more of.  I have started to build up quite a following here and I don’t want to lose anybody!

So let me get back to being busy and doing NOTHING!

I’m excited about the vlogs coming. I’ve enjoyed how you talk about mote than the basics of training and make it FUN. so many sports blogs have these invisible bench marks us readers feel we will never meet. You’re very informative and practical. One of my all time fave post was when you posted the demographics of triathletes. Super cool! Thanks, oh and I’m @hhhandmaiden. Run.Skip.Run!

Thanks @hhhandmaiden. I really appreciate your feedback and also am excited about the new format. My concept for the videos will be very “off the cuff” because I want them to be as real as possible…..not scripted, produced videos. Sure I spent my time creating nice “intros” and “outros” but when it comes down to it I want to be able to dish out good practical information. If nothing else it will be a fun way for me to look back at my experiences.

About

So if you have read any of the blog thus far you know a little bit about me… I can not be told what to do and I push myself about as far as I can be pushed!

But how did I get here and why? Well, that is what this page is about.

I was never really the athletic type. Sure, I played tennis in high school (and quite well, mind you) but running CERTAINLY was never my thing!

The start of 2009 was big for me as I came to the realization that I had put on too much weight over the past 10 years (read more...)
