Back at it with flying colors (green!)

Well, back at it after a much needed rest. Not only for the soul but the body as well!  Some exciting stuff to report.

First and foremost this run officially puts me at the GREEN LEVEL on the Nike+ website….. FINALLY!  I really can’t ever imagine myself reaching this level… now 400+ miles to go to get to the next level… really??

I have been talking to a friend of mine from church, David, and he has been trying to get me to come train with him for a triathalon…..  Don’t get me wrong, the thought of that really, really, REALLY intrigues me.  However, I need to get through a real life 5K first!  One thing at a time, right Skip?  WRONG.

One of the main reasons I have put this off is due to the face that I didn’t have a bike.  I take that back.  I have a bike in my warehouse but it is so old and rusted that it barely even moves.  The only reason it is still there is because I am having a hard time finding a place to dump it!  It really is a lost cause…

So David the other day mentions that he has an older bike he would like to give me to get me going…. awesome, I thought to myself!  So today I was working at church and he texts me that he is bringing the bike with him.  My problem?  I have no way of really getting it home.  Sure I could find someway to get it in the car but who wants to risk that with a ’67 Mustang… right?

So I quickly put my plan into action.  I left the bike at church while I drove home.  Jumped out of my car, stretched a little bit and hit the road (using my feet) and ran exactly 5 miles to pick it up right where I had left it.  I then jumped on the bike and rode it home for another 5 miles of exercise.

It has been a very, very long time since I have been on a bike so I probably looked a little silly when I first took off but let me tell you… it felt good.  I forgot how much I enjoyed being on a bike and to top it all off, it was a beautiful day out.

So….. I guess that means this commits me to start training for a triathlon.  I do need to put this off until the middle of May so that I can concentrate on running a decent 5K.  After that I will get a membership at the local park and take advantage of their Olympic sized pool so that I can tackle all three areas of the triathlon.  I am going to also create a new category here on this blog for triathlon training so you can sort out just those articles if you are interested.   You will probably also see some additional screen shots that you have not seen before.  These will be from an iPhone app called Cyclemeter that will help me keep track of my biking workouts.

I am like a kid in a candy store with a whole new set of goals and expectations for myself!

So if you have read any of the blog thus far you know a little bit about me… I can not be told what to do and I push myself about as far as I can be pushed!

But how did I get here and why? Well, that is what this page is about.

I was never really the athletic type. Sure, I played tennis in high school (and quite well, mind you) but running CERTAINLY was never my thing!
