Biking it… great for off days!

Today I got out to make a trip to the warehouse on my bike and pickup a bike lock I had there.  While I was out I stayed out for a while to get at least 5 miles in.  I know that is not much but at least it was something, right?

As you can tell from my average speed I was not really concentrating on overall speed, just a little bit of “leg endurance.”  Luckily I have been using the stationary bike quite a bit so getting on the real deal is not really that big of a deal… if anything it is a little bit easier as I always have the resistance set quite high.  So getting out on the flat roads of Florida and in the fresh air makes it so, so, sooooo much more enjoyable!

I am noticing that when I use this Cylclemeter iPhone app, it really, really sucks up the battery!  I have noticed that there is an update for this app and it now has an option for “offline mode.”  Not quite sure how that will change statistics.  I am assuming it shuts off the GPS but what else will it effect?

More and more I am looking at a multifunction timing device like the Garmin Forerunner 310XT, especially if I am looking at doing triathlon training.

Any thoughts on this?

I was never really the athletic type. Sure, I played tennis in high school (and quite well, mind you) but running CERTAINLY was never my thing!
