Couch to 5K: Week 7, Day 1

By Skip

Starting off week 7 I was not so sure how I would do.  After the other day and doing 8 miles, my knees were quite sore.  Yesterday afternoon I was doubting I would be able to get out this morning.  However, when I woke up this morning, everything seemed fine.

The important thing to remember is to stick to the program and not overdo it.  I keep telling myself this and I keep pushing myself too far.  I have to remember that if I continue to do that I will injure myself and will be out of commission for a while.

Today’s C25K training has me doing:

  • Five-minute warmup
  • Run for 25 minutes with no walking.\
  • Five-minute cooldown

So that is what the plan was… you know me,  I can’t be told what to do!  I set out thinking that I could probably run a 5K in 25 minutes or so….. that is what I ended up setting my Nike+ app to… Distance run of 5K.  I also decided not to count the 5 minutes warmup walk in the beginning or in the end.  Those are just bonus calories!!

As you an see, I did a 5K in 26+ minutes.  Not too shabby if you ask me considering at the beginning of the year I have never run before in my life.

I finished, felt great, no pains AND I tried out a new app for my iPhone.  I will report on that shortly after I have had a few runs to play around with it.

About

So if you have read any of the blog thus far you know a little bit about me… I can not be told what to do and I push myself about as far as I can be pushed!

But how did I get here and why? Well, that is what this page is about.

I was never really the athletic type. Sure, I played tennis in high school (and quite well, mind you) but running CERTAINLY was never my thing!

The start of 2009 was big for me as I came to the realization that I had put on too much weight over the past 10 years (read more...)
