Couch to 5K: Week 8, Day 1

By Skip

Wooohoo…. back on the road again!  It has been a couple of days and I have been just waiting to get back out!  My ankle is still not 100% but I wanted to see what would happen if I went out there.

Since it had been a few days and I was behind on some of my Nike+ challenges, I knew I had to run a little bit extra today to build up the miles and burn up the calorie

Here is what was on my list for today:

  • Five-minute warmup
  • Run for 28 minutes
  • Five-minute cooldown

Once again, could not hold true to that schedule so ended up running for 55:52.  I really wanted to get a new personal best going for my 10K which I did in 54’04″….. YEAH!

Off until  Saturday now and it will be interesting to see if my ankle gets better or worse.  I think it is an issue that is tied to another muscle, believe it or not.  I really felt it this morning when I was stretching.  I guess only time will tell but I really want to get back on my regular schedule.

Technically, only 5 more training days left until I have completed this program.  BUT, as you can see, the goal of the program was to get me to be able to run a 5K in 30 minutes of running.  I have proved that I can not only run 30 minutes straight, I can run a respectable 5K!  Just have to pick up the pace on those runs so I can actually compete and not just “finish.”

About

So if you have read any of the blog thus far you know a little bit about me… I can not be told what to do and I push myself about as far as I can be pushed!

But how did I get here and why? Well, that is what this page is about.

I was never really the athletic type. Sure, I played tennis in high school (and quite well, mind you) but running CERTAINLY was never my thing!

The start of 2009 was big for me as I came to the realization that I had put on too much weight over the past 10 years (read more...)
