Day 10: Last day of running before race day!

By Skip

I didn’t feel great about today’s run…  First of all, I didn’t get up in time to run before work. Does this mean I am losing some of my steam or just the fact I stayed up late the previous night watching a movie.  In either case, I need to pay more attention to this.

Not running in the morning meant that I needed to run when I got back from work.  I knew I HAD to run today because tomorrow is my rest day before the race on Saturday.  When I got home it started to storm and lightning.   I figured I would wait until the storm passed and run later that night.  So in the meantime I had some crackers, slammed a Gatorade, etc.  I had to have some food to sustain me until then.  About 15 minutes later the storm cleared and I made the decision to go out and get it out of the way.

This means that I had just had food and lots of water before this 30 minute interval run I had planned.  Looking back on it that was not the smartest thing to do.  I can’t be so wishy-washy about my workouts and need to stick to my plan!  About 15 minutes into the run I started to get stomach cramps… you know the ones you get when you don’t think about what you put into your body before you run?

This really effected my running speed, form and mental condition.  I seriously hope today’s run is not an indication of my endurance and how I am going to perform on Saturday.  I really feel like I am not running enough.  I am thinking about adding short daily runs into my routine… some 1 and 2 mile runs just for speed, for instance… anybody think this a good or bad idea?

Looking back at my stats, I really didn’t do that bad, just did not seem good at the time.  Tomorrow is rest day so I will give you my feedback for the week and my thoughts for the week ahead.

Today, I was suppose to do:

  • WU: Run 10 minutes @ moderate aerobic intensity
  • MS: Run 10 minutes @ moderate aerobic intensity
  • CD: Run 10 minutes @ moderate aerobic intensity

Once again, very generic so thought I would do my Serena Williams interval workout which I love to do.  I have very mixed feelings about my run.  I am counting on that being my strong point when it comes to the triathlon.

So if you have read any of the blog thus far you know a little bit about me… I can not be told what to do and I push myself about as far as I can be pushed!

But how did I get here and why? Well, that is what this page is about.

I was never really the athletic type. Sure, I played tennis in high school (and quite well, mind you) but running CERTAINLY was never my thing!

The start of 2009 was big for me as I came to the realization that I had put on too much weight over the past 10 years (read more...)
