Day 14: Swim Fartlek And Sprint
Yesterday, not so lucky. Today, very lucky! Got home from work and dodged a storm. All the way home I was checking the status of the pool (via iPhone/web) and it was closed due to lightning.
They stopped updating the online status at about 5:30pm so when I finally got home I called them up to find what was going on… was I going to get to swim today? Another screwed up schedule? Well, the guy on the other end of the phone told me that the pool was indeed closed but it could open at any time.
At that point I decided to jump on the bike and headed there to give it a shot. After all, I would at least get some bike time in, right? I pulled up, sure enough, there were people in the water! Yeah! Sky was very dark so I got right to work as I knew my workout could be interrupted at any point in time.
Here was my workout for today:
- Warm Up:
- 250 @ low aerobic intensity
- 6 x 25 drills, RI=0:10
- Main Set:
- 4 x 100 (25 build/25 descend) start @ moderate aerobic intensity, build to threshold intensity, RI=0:10
- 4 x 25 kick, RI=0:15
- Cool Down:
- 200 @ low aerobic intensity
Felt pretty good today… better than I thought I would do. I am getting much more comfortable in the water and relaxing a little bit. I think that is making a big difference. Picked up a kick-board the other day so took it out for the first time to work on the kick, which I knew I needed to. Are you suppose to go that slow? Seemed like I was doing something wrong… to the point that I was looking around to see if others were laughing 🙂
Anyway, finished my workout, got out of the water and the lifeguards blew the whistle for everybody to get out as there was lightning in the area….. literally 2 minutes after I finished! I hurried up, got back on my bike and headed back home.
Still have plenty to do with the swim. I am going to hook up with a friend of mine, hopefully this Thursday, to have him examine my stroke and other areas I seem to be struggling with. I am a good learner so all I need to be is pointed in the right direction and I will attack it!
Tomorrow I am headed out for a 35 minute run. I am going to try to maintain a pretty decent pace for that period of time to see how I do.
