Day 17: One loud bike ride

By Skip

I mentioned the other day that I had some loud brakes… well, when I went out today I tried a technique I heard about online where you put something sticky on the metal rim to quiet it down.  Had some pancake syrup on hand (not kidding) and rubbed a little on the rim.  Guess what?  It made the noise about 100 times worse.  It didn’t get worse until I was about a 1/4 mile down the road and then you could hear me coming a block away.  Talk about embarrassing!

I will need to try something else tomorrow… I only need to go to the pool and back (yes, back in the pool again) but I don’t want to scare the neighbors.  Will try to file the brakes down a little and then if that does not work I will get some new brakes on Saturday morning before my next official ride.

Today, my schedule was:

  • WU: 10 minutes @ moderate aerobic intensity
  • MS: 40 minutes @ moderate aerobic intensity
  • CD: 10 minutes @ moderate aerobic intensity

It was a really tough ride today and I was not happy with it.  First of all, it was about 95 degrees out and I went after work which means I was in rush hour traffic.  The wind on my north route was very strong and slowed me down quite a bit.  South bound was a little faster but between all the red lights I hit and the heat, it just was not a productive day out there.

I knew it would be hot today so I concentrated on hydrating all day long.  That was a very good thing because if I had not, I would have been in real trouble out there on the road.  I lost at least 2-3 pounds of sweat.  I didn’t do a weigh in before / after but I know my body well enough by now.

As you can see my heart rate was up and my cadence was just kind of alright.  Could have been a heck of a lot better.  I am noticing getting worn down a little this week as well.  My workouts are increasing a little bit and my body is letting me know it is there!  Tomorrow pool, Saturday bike, Sunday run and then my rest day on Monday…. ahhhhhhhhhh.

About

So if you have read any of the blog thus far you know a little bit about me… I can not be told what to do and I push myself about as far as I can be pushed!

But how did I get here and why? Well, that is what this page is about.

I was never really the athletic type. Sure, I played tennis in high school (and quite well, mind you) but running CERTAINLY was never my thing!

The start of 2009 was big for me as I came to the realization that I had put on too much weight over the past 10 years (read more...)
