Day 19: A little longer bike before the heat kicks in

Got up early this morning as I wanted to get my biking done before the heat kicked in and the storms rolled in.  It is suppose to get up to about 94 with a high heat index that is suppose to put it at about 105.  Not the kind of weather you need to be out and about if you can avoid it.  PLUS I wanted to get everything done before US beats England today in the World Cup…. I know those will be words I will live to regret :)

As I looked at the schedule for today, this is what it had planned for me:

  • WU: 10 minutes @ moderate aerobic pace
  • MS: 55 minutes @ moderate aerobic pace
  • CD: 10 minutes @ moderate aerobic pace

A quick calculation put me in downtown Ft. Lauderdale if I chose to do it and I DID!  Saturday morning was the perfect day to do this run as there was very little traffic.

This was a nice workout as I had two larger hills (bridges) and a smaller hill to work.  This is the first time I did any type of biking up a hill….. I now know where to go to work on these drills.

I was pretty happy with my overall workout… Cadence was decent the I need to work on my speed more.  Having said that, I am feeling this week’s workouts and my body is telling me so.  My legs are really tired and I do not look for much performance from my run tomorrow. 

Bought some new brake pads today and will be replacing them.  Last night I did take a file and shaved off a little of the “glazing” from the brake pads and things were better but not great.  Will let you know how the new ones work.  I also bought some bike lube as I can feel a little drag.  It is pretty amazing how the bike really becomes an extension of your body and you can feel every little thing on it.

I was never really the athletic type. Sure, I played tennis in high school (and quite well, mind you) but running CERTAINLY was never my thing!
