Day 20: A little extra running to take off those doughnut calories

By Skip

I am a little delayed in this post because my laptop decided to crash on me and I was not able to get to my WKO stats.  As a matter of fact, while I am writing this I am also restoring my laptop.

So the run was the last workout of the week.  Looking at my plan I had an idea:

  • WU: Run 10 minutes @ moderate aerobic intensity
  • MS: Run 15 minutes @ moderate aerobic intensity
  • CD: Run 10 minutes @ moderate aerobic intensity

I had not done a 10K in a while so I went out with a 6.2 mile run in mind and that is what I did.  Was very hot by the time I got outside… Should have gotten out a little earlier as it was wickedly humid as well.

One of the reasons I went for a longer run is because last night I had a doughnut that was in the refrigerator that was staring me in the face.  I gave into it (as I had extra calories to consume) and I think I went into a sugar coma!  Fell asleep on the couch shortly afterwards and had a hard time getting up this morning… almost like a hangover.  I guess my body just could not handle that influx of sugar or something.

Did one of my better 10K runs today.  I think I am mentally ready to sign up for the Cooper Bridge run in South Carolina next year in the “49 minute and under” category.  That is not until April so I have PLENTY of time to achieve much better results than that but at least I am on the right path.

The nice thing is that I will be working on my Olympic length triathlon at that time so a 10K run will fit perfectly into that.  I will have need to have graduated from these 5K races even though they are so much fun!  AND there are more of them than the 10K races.

Another goal of mine next year is to run a couple of half marathons.  That will put me in the range of a half ironman in 2012…. wouldn’t THAT be something!  From there it only goes up to an ironman….. Honestly I can’t imagine me doing that at this point.  It just seems so far fetched, but who knows?

When I get my laptop back up and running and have access to my WKO run data I will post it here.  Overall, an “under 8:00” pace is pretty darn good considering I have not really trained for that.

About

So if you have read any of the blog thus far you know a little bit about me… I can not be told what to do and I push myself about as far as I can be pushed!

But how did I get here and why? Well, that is what this page is about.

I was never really the athletic type. Sure, I played tennis in high school (and quite well, mind you) but running CERTAINLY was never my thing!

The start of 2009 was big for me as I came to the realization that I had put on too much weight over the past 10 years (read more...)
