Day 25: Are bugs a good source of protein?

Got home from work a little excited and a little nervous about swim day today.  Since I seem to have the most mental and physical hurdles here I am overwhelmed with what I have to accomplish.

So when I got home I prepped everything and headed out on the bike to get there.  There were “clouds” of bugs on my way to the pool.  To the point that I had to grit my teeth to avoid an extra protein in my diet.  I mean, come on, how do you count THOSE calories??  I actually had to wipe the bugs off of my legs, arm and face when I got to the pool!

This is what was staring me straight in the face today:

  • WU: 250 @ low aerobic intensity
    • 6 x 25 drills, RI=0:10
  • MS: 3 x 200 @ threshold intensity, RI=0:45
  • CD: 250 @ low aerobic intensity

3 x 200 at threshold intensity?  Are you serious?  Ok, let’s see how I do!  Warm up was fine, pull buoy drills were fine but man, those main set drills were tough! In the meantime there was a huge storm brewing in the sky and I was 3/4 of the way through my 3rd round of 200’s in my main set and they kicked us out of the pool due to lightning.

The good news is I survived and quite honestly I did more yards in my warm up and 6×25 drills so I ended up doing about 1100 yards when I actually had 1250 planned.  Next time out, however, I have some make up work to do.

After getting home and uploading my data from the Garmin, I noticed something interesting.  It seems like with the last firmware upgrade, the distances seem to be a heck of a lot more accurate in the pool.  Has anybody else noticed that?  It was almost exactly correct with my mental calculations.
