Day 29: Bike, Swim, Bike, Run, Drink, Eat, Drink, Blog, Crash!

Pretty full day of workouts I had scheduled.  Technically, it was just my swim day.  However, I always bike to and from the pool.  Since I have a race coming up this week I made the decision that I needed to get a couple of more runs in before then. So guess what?  I threw in a 3 mile run after all of the regularly schedule exercise.

The swim:

  • WU: 250 @ low aerobic intensity
    • 6 x 25 drills, RI=0:10
  • MS: 8 x 100 @ moderate aerobic intensity, RI=0:05
    • 6 x 25 kick, RI=0:15
  • CD: 250 @ low aerobic intensity

I didn’t look at my workout too closely so ended up only doing 4×25 kick drills as that is what I had done in the past.  So I was 50 yards short of my goal.  Still did 1550 yards.  Funny thing is at times I felt like I was flying through the water and other times I felt I was really dragging.  I don’t really know what I was doing differently which is what concerns me. 

It was also very entertaining as the pool was full and there were quite a few swim teams there from around the world so I got to see, first hand, what I will never be on the swimming front.  These kids were very impressive!  Some of the drills they were doing, I can’t imagine ever doing myself.  Before I started back in the water a few short months ago, if you would have asked me and if I had to envision myself, I would have said at that time that I fell into that category…. who was I trying to kid?

Was a little windy biking back and forth to the pool but just like the swimming, I felt like I was flying at times and other times it was painfully slow.

It ended up being a beautiful time to run.  The sun was setting and it was beginning to cool off.  The sky was beautiful and I really enjoyed it.  I kept my pace relatively slow, on purpose.  Today was not the day to break records, it was to keep up with my running endurance and making sure those legs remember what to do!

I am back on the bike tomorrow and will probably doing some stationary biking… we will see what time I get home from work.  I am scheduled to do some hill climbs which I can more easily accomplish that actually out in the open.  I really need to hunt down a place where I can do some real hill climbs.  I really don’t want to do bridges.  Multiple sets of those, I think, would be dangerous with the way traffic is down here in south Florida.

I was never really the athletic type. Sure, I played tennis in high school (and quite well, mind you) but running CERTAINLY was never my thing!
