Day 30: Garmin auto pause issue while biking? Anybody else?

By Skip

Headed out today on the bike once I got home from work.  I know yesterday I said that I would probably do the stationary bike thing but you know what?  It was just too nice of day…. I got home a little later and it was cooling off and the days are a little longer now so I went for it.

Took a detour and went down some roads I have never been down before.  Boy was I glad I did that!  I saw some incredible neighborhoods and horses and cows… all while being kind of in the city… not really but close enough.

On my adgenda was:

  • WU: 10 minutes @ moderate aerobic intensity
  • MS: 7 x 1-minute hill climbs @ speed intensity with enough recovery to reach total workout time of 1 hour (including warm-up and cool-down)
  • CD: 10 minutes @ moderate aerobic intensity

I got so distracted from the scenery that I did not even attempt to do the hill climbs even though there are no hills to be found 🙂

Instead, I plugged along as fast as my legs would allow.  I hit some pretty good speeds but there was some strong winds, which I did not realize how strong they were until I headed into them!  Yikes!  24-25 mph with the wind and 14-16 against.  Not pretty but fun none the less.  Plus it gave me the opportunity to play around with shifting up and down a little more to find the right cadence through the route.

If you notice from the data in the picture above I had to stop for a couple of minutes and adjust my brakes.  Plus, I have stuff starting to come loose on the bike that I need to start paying attention to.  I don’t want to be stranded out in the middle of nowhere and have to WALK back home 10-15 miles! (or more)

I was having an issue at one point in time with my Garmin 310xt….. I had it set to auto pause if I got below 3mph, basically if I was at a stop light.  However, it kept auto pausing / resuming every couple of seconds and I was doing a consistent 25 mph…. Does the auto pause base itself upon satellite?  Or is it from the speed in the sensors on Garmin sensors on the bike?  Was this just a glitch or do I need to replace batteries in the bike sensors?  I ended up just turning off the auto pause which screwed up my timing on other things.

Just curious if anybody has any input on this… it would be greatly appreciated!

I have this same problem with auto-pause and it drives me crazy. I have been searching for a fix online and cannot find one. I have re-installed my firmware and reset my GSC-10. I also replaced my magnet…tried everything…it is really annoying because it throws off my data. Only way I can get it to work is to take off the GSC-10, but I don’t get cadence data so I am not happy. Wish garmin would have a fix. so far, no dice with my numerous trouble tickets.

Please post if you figure it out.

About

So if you have read any of the blog thus far you know a little bit about me… I can not be told what to do and I push myself about as far as I can be pushed!

But how did I get here and why? Well, that is what this page is about.

I was never really the athletic type. Sure, I played tennis in high school (and quite well, mind you) but running CERTAINLY was never my thing!

The start of 2009 was big for me as I came to the realization that I had put on too much weight over the past 10 years (read more...)
