Day 32: Update on injury and a quick look back. Shoe suggestions?

By Skip

Tried to stay of my feet as much today as it is my day off from training.  I was glad that I was able to stay at my desk most of the day with my shoes off.  I wore my older tennis shoes to work today and will be putting some dress shoes on for tonight.  My dress shoes certainly are not going to make my feet feel good but it will be a change in environment for them 🙂

I have a slight case of  plantar fasciitis but from having it before, it really is not as bad as it could be.  I will stretch it out really, really good tomorrow morning (heck, even later tonight) and will ice it up as well.  First thing I will do after the race is run out (pun intended) and get a replacement pair of shoes…. same exact type and size.   I really did not want to do it today…. felt like I might be jinxing myself if I do that.

Then again, while I am at it, anybody else have suggestion for running shoes?  I was looking at the Newtons or even a barefoot style of shoe… then again, I really don’t want to learn how to run all over again… at least not now!

This week was a little tougher for me.  I look forward to the race tomorrow but I am also cautious about the amount of work ahead of me.  I only have 50 days left of training before my first triathlon and really can’t afford to miss even one day so I am hoping tomorrow won’t do me in.  I thought about cancelling it and foregoing my entrance fee but I also raised money for a charity so I really can’t back out.

Recommendations on shoes would be great before I go shopping tomorrow…. Wish me luck!

Hey Skip! Well, I just saw this post, so I’m a little late to the draw…what kind of shoes did you end up getting?

Hey Katie, I bought a pair of Brooks Glycerin 8 running shoes. I will be doing a review on them shortly. When I bought this pair I did it properly… I went into a running store where they had a camera, treadmill, they evaluated my stride and how my foot reacted, etc. Tried on about 10 different pairs and ended up with these. If you would have asked me walking into the store what was on my list of “most wanted” shoes, this did not make the list but boy do they feel right!

So if you have read any of the blog thus far you know a little bit about me… I can not be told what to do and I push myself about as far as I can be pushed!

But how did I get here and why? Well, that is what this page is about.

I was never really the athletic type. Sure, I played tennis in high school (and quite well, mind you) but running CERTAINLY was never my thing!

The start of 2009 was big for me as I came to the realization that I had put on too much weight over the past 10 years (read more...)
