Day 35: These legs for made for swimming and my first sponsor

By Skip

As I peddled off to the pool my legs felt like they were going to fall off.  After yesterdays bike ride I really had nothing left to give today.  It is actually good to have done that for two reasons.  The first being that I now fully understand what overworking the legs will do to me.  The second is that if you do not stay hydrated and fuel your body your muscles can not perform!  And thirdly if you stress your body too much without breaking into it, your next day out you will not be able to perform as you should.  I almost felt like I was performing at half capacity today.

Today’s agenda called for:

  • WU: 250 @ low aerobic intensity
    • 6 x 25 drills, RI=0:10
  • MS: 5 x 200 @ threshold intensity, RI=0:45
    • 6 x 25 kick, RI=0:15
  • CD: 250 @ low aerobic intensity

It called for about 1800 yards… I ended up doing 1850.  An extra 50 for good luck!  Actually, I had this very nice comfort level sweep over me today while I was in the pool.  In the past few times out I have had some anxiety thinking about the open water swim but it had a calming effect on me today.  Maybe doing 1000 yards in my main set is what made a difference?  I also felt comfortable with my bilateral breathing today.  I practiced that on my warm up and cool down sets.  I am not ready for that while I am in my threshold intensity zone.

Tomorrow I am back on the bike for my hill drills…. I have NO idea how I am going to manage that!  I am thinking about swapping around my bike and run days to let me biking muscles heal a little bit.  Then again, I can’t mess with my schedule every week.  Next week I will be adjusting it, yet again, to make room for a trip to Key West I have had planned for a while.  After that, maybe I can get back in the groove.

Also, I would like to officially welcome Wells Entertainment as a sponsor.  We are still looking for more sponsors for the 2010 and 2011 seasons.  If you are interested, contact me at for more information and details of sponsorship.  Very exciting times ahead and big plans for this year and next.  Heck, big plans leading into 2012 as well!

So if you have read any of the blog thus far you know a little bit about me… I can not be told what to do and I push myself about as far as I can be pushed!

But how did I get here and why? Well, that is what this page is about.

I was never really the athletic type. Sure, I played tennis in high school (and quite well, mind you) but running CERTAINLY was never my thing!

The start of 2009 was big for me as I came to the realization that I had put on too much weight over the past 10 years (read more...)
