Day 38: Running in my new shoes

By Skip

Got a very late start tonight with my run.  Got home from work late, went to the grocery store, etc.  By the time I stretched and got out the door it was 9:30pm.  The good part of that is that it had cooled off quite a bit.  Still hot, however…. what can I expect?  I live in Florida!

I ran today in my new shoes.  I ended up with the Brooks Glycerin 8shoes with DNA….. oooooooo, ahhhhhhhhhh….. I will do a review on them later once my feet kind of get used to them.  They are very comfortable but, like any shoe, I think your body needs to get used to the way they function.  I was feeling some body adjustments going on without my knowledge but  nothing major.  I think in the long run I will notice a difference.

Here was my agenda for this run today:

  • WU: Run 5 minutes @ moderate aerobic intensity
  • MS: 6 x 30 seconds @ VO2max intensity with enough active recovery to reach total workout time of 35 minutes (including warm-up and cool-down)
  • CD: Run 5 minutes @ moderate aerobic intensity

What I actually ran was my Asafa Powell interview run workout.  Hey, has anybody else had problems with Nike+ workout tracks since upgrading their phone to iOS4?  When I choose it in the Nike + app, all it plays are the individual tracks that you purchase and NOT the full, continuous running track.  What’s up with that?

Looking at my chart below, you can see where I pumped it up to my quickest pace 6 times as I was suppose to.  I just used the music as a base and ran fast when I felt that I could.  I really am starting to understand more how my body works  I need to start practicing now without music!  I might as well start now as I won’t be able to use it on August 15th.

Tomorrow is another swim day.  I think I have 1800 meters planned.  My body is really starting to feel it this week.  I don’t think I have a muscle or body part this is not sore at this point.  With a swim tomorrow, brick on Saturday and another run on Sunday, I will be ready for a break.

So if you have read any of the blog thus far you know a little bit about me… I can not be told what to do and I push myself about as far as I can be pushed!

But how did I get here and why? Well, that is what this page is about.

I was never really the athletic type. Sure, I played tennis in high school (and quite well, mind you) but running CERTAINLY was never my thing!

The start of 2009 was big for me as I came to the realization that I had put on too much weight over the past 10 years (read more...)
