Day 39: Unexpected day off and pie eating contest

By Skip

I had not planned to take a day off until Monday, however, when I got home from work today it was raining and thundering.  Since this was my swim day I had a problem.

What makes this even worse is that during the day I had calculated my calorie consumption based upon the additional calories I could intake because of my swim and my biking to and from the pool.  This allowed me to partake in a company pie judging contest….. I was not judging but I could eat some, right?

Well this ended up being a calorie disaster because I was not able to get any workouts in.  The good part is that I was able to swap my Monday “relax” day with today.  It all works out good, just need to work off the extra calories from today over the next few days.

So let me quickly reflect upon this last week.  I am sore and exhausted but feel and notice the improvement.  Probably more so than any week so far.  I only hope that the remaining 45 days continue to be as productive.  If they are I really should not be afraid of my first triathlon.

Next week should be similar to this week and then I am headed to Key West for some relaxation with some of my friends.  I will have to make sure I don’t get derailed while I am there…. there a quite a bit of calories in those rum runners!

Another thing I need to think about, in the back of my mind, is if the weather interrupts my workout schedule again, what should I do?  As long as I have a plan in place I won’t be too bothered when it happens.  My weeks are so structured that there is not much room for missing even one day.

If you liked that post, then try these...

I am new to triathlon and I am pnlnaing on doing my first triathlon next season (need to get fit first!!).I am confused about the BTA memberships and I am trying to work out what is best to do. I am not pnlnaing on joining my local club and I am training on my own. Should I become a member of BTA Triathlon England? I understand some races require a membership and race license and some just ask for a day fee. Is it better to be a member of this organisation?Kind RegardsLieann

So if you have read any of the blog thus far you know a little bit about me… I can not be told what to do and I push myself about as far as I can be pushed!

But how did I get here and why? Well, that is what this page is about.

I was never really the athletic type. Sure, I played tennis in high school (and quite well, mind you) but running CERTAINLY was never my thing!

The start of 2009 was big for me as I came to the realization that I had put on too much weight over the past 10 years (read more...)
