Day 5: Biking 20 miles and improving

By Skip

When I headed out on the bike today I had a pretty solid goal in mind that would probably go beyond the 45 minutes that I had originally planned.

I was cruising a pretty good clip today… actually felt a lot better about my bike training and I realize I have only just begun.  These last two training days have been quite an emotional uplifting as I see there is potential in what I am doing.  It is nice to have that feeling so quickly on.  The first first days of training were actually quite depressing as I started to realize how far I really had to go before seeing any type of progress.

Here is what was on my agenda:

  • WU: 10 minutes @ moderate aerobic intensity
  • MS: 25 minutes @ moderate aerobic intensity
  • CD: 10 minutes @ moderate aerobic intensity

Still pretty early on the the bike training and as soon as the exercises start becoming lest generic I need to stick to what I am suppose to do.  That is one thing early on in my running training I ignored and I ended up injuring myself.

I did get a few things for the bike today like a really nice strobe reflector for the the rear of the bike so if I am coming home at dusk from my swimming sessions it will be  a little bit safer.  I also picked up a number 15 wrench for the wheels so that I could actually change a tire if I needed to.  After all, I have the tire pump, spare tube and CO2 cartridge….. if that ever happens (which it will with these thin slicks I have on) I will be prepared for it.  As a matter of fact, that is something I need to practice!

So if you have read any of the blog thus far you know a little bit about me… I can not be told what to do and I push myself about as far as I can be pushed!

But how did I get here and why? Well, that is what this page is about.

I was never really the athletic type. Sure, I played tennis in high school (and quite well, mind you) but running CERTAINLY was never my thing!

The start of 2009 was big for me as I came to the realization that I had put on too much weight over the past 10 years (read more...)
