Day 60: Finally a workout that won’t wear me out

By Skip

Ok, so it is my day off.. my relaxing day… Then again, every time I take one of these days off I usually do something that makes me even MORE tired.

I use this day to reflect on my previous week of workouts and look forward to the upcoming week.  I am in my final weeks of preparation for the race so I need to really concentrate on my schedule and stick to it.  No more adjusting my workout days around and NO MORE two day weekends…  Sometimes I can’t help it but this is going to screw me up and possibly cause injury.  At this point in the game, if I get injured I am going to be very, very upset with myself.  Especially if it is an injury I could have avoided!

My foundation runs are getting longer and my tempo drills are getting more intense.  I took a sneak peak at next week and things just continue to build.  When it comes to my taper week (not that far off!) I won’t know what to do with myself.  Actually, that week will make me very nervous and I will have to focus on the fact that there is a reason for a taper week.  As long as you have trained properly everything should work out properly.  That is why I never want to miss or “cheat” a workout… I always make sure I get the most out of each and every day.

I need to start thinking about post race.  I will have two weeks off and then hit it again for the Miami Nice triathlon.  After the first race I can’t take an entire week to recover and the following week to taper 🙂  Any suggestions from anyone out there on how I should focus my workouts in the two week time period?

So if you have read any of the blog thus far you know a little bit about me… I can not be told what to do and I push myself about as far as I can be pushed!

But how did I get here and why? Well, that is what this page is about.

I was never really the athletic type. Sure, I played tennis in high school (and quite well, mind you) but running CERTAINLY was never my thing!

The start of 2009 was big for me as I came to the realization that I had put on too much weight over the past 10 years (read more...)
