Day 65: These legs are NOT fresh!

By Skip

Back on the bike today.  Seems like just the other day I was out on the bike.  On the other hand, I was.  Today was a tougher tempo based workout… it was tougher only because my legs were not as fresh as they could have been.  My problem all relates back to doubling up just a couple of days ago due to an extra day off over the weekend.  Now I am starting to get upset with myself because my workout today was affected.

Here was the workout for today:

  • WU: 22 minutes @ moderate aerobic intensity
  • MS: 26 minutes @ threshold intensity
  • CD: 22 minutes @ moderate aerobic intensity

I stayed strong and steady for the 26 minutes but I could have done so much better.  I am starting to notice more and more that I need to concentrate on my biking stroke as well.   It is pretty uneven and being clipped in the pedals, I should be able to convert that to a very powerful, smooth stroke.  I guess it is such a new concept and I am so used to using the down stroke as my power stroke that I will have to mentally re-work it.  Kind of like Tiger Woods re-inventing his golf stroke…. Evaluate, break it down and start with the basics.  The good news that on a bike stroke it is so much easier than relearning a golf stroke!

So if you have read any of the blog thus far you know a little bit about me… I can not be told what to do and I push myself about as far as I can be pushed!

But how did I get here and why? Well, that is what this page is about.

I was never really the athletic type. Sure, I played tennis in high school (and quite well, mind you) but running CERTAINLY was never my thing!

The start of 2009 was big for me as I came to the realization that I had put on too much weight over the past 10 years (read more...)
