Day 67: Don’t forget the suntan lotion

By Skip

I am trying to play catch up again this week.  Got home from work early and headed to the pool.  It was really, really hot outside.  About halfway through my workout, I realized I forgot to put sun tan lotion on!  Yikes!

Luckily, it was a short workout.  The water was not super cold and the cement was hot to walk across.  I think I actually burned my feet walking 20 feet to get into the water!

I felt pretty good during these drills but still don’t know how far to push myself. When I got out of the water, I noticed that I was bleeding on my face.  Somehow, I cut myself on the nose and was bleeding a little bit.  Strange!

On my workout schedule for today:

  • WU: 250 @ low aerobic intensity
    • 4 x 25 drills, RI=0:10
  • MS: 7 x 75 @ VO2max intensity, RI=0:20
    • 6 x 25 kick, RI=0:15
  • CD: 250 @ low aerobic intensity

Stuck to the schedule because I was in the shorter lanes.  I also wanted to be in deeper water today as I worked on my VO2max drills.  I wanted to get past a certain mental block I was having about this.  Succeeded with no issues!  One thing I did notice is that I seem to be rolling quite a bit on my strokes… I am not sure if that is working against me or making me more effective.

Looks like my goggles and swim shorts are already feeling the effect of the chlorine.  Goggles started leaking badly today and noticed my Speedos are getting looser….. Maybe because I am losing more weight?  Nope, I keep an eye on that on a daily basis.

With about two weeks left, I am hoping to get out for an open water swim on Monday.  Keep your fingers crossed that the weather will be on my side that day.

If you liked that post, then try these...

About

So if you have read any of the blog thus far you know a little bit about me… I can not be told what to do and I push myself about as far as I can be pushed!

But how did I get here and why? Well, that is what this page is about.

I was never really the athletic type. Sure, I played tennis in high school (and quite well, mind you) but running CERTAINLY was never my thing!

The start of 2009 was big for me as I came to the realization that I had put on too much weight over the past 10 years (read more...)
