Day 72: Double the threshold means double the fun

Storms, storms, everywhere.  I had the oddest form of luck while I was on my bike.  As a matter of fact, it started earlier that day and continued while I was on the bike.  In ever directions there were storm clouds but not once did I get rained on.  Yet, every place I traveled, it had just rained. It was a good thing too because I ended up working out for about an hour and twenty-five minutes.  That would have been one soggy ride! 

My bike workout for today consisted of: 

  • WU: 19 minutes @ moderate aerobic intensity
  • MS: 2 x 14 minutes @ threshold intensity with 10 minutes active recovery @ moderate aerobic intensity
  • CD: 18 minutes @ moderate aerobic intensity

So as you can see I had two threshold workouts in my main set today.  They were tough but they were good!  I would eventually like to find a longer stretch of road that I could workout continuously on instead of repeating a shorter road over and over again.  I look forward getting past my sprint triathlon training and head into my Olympic distance training (November or so of this year.)  That will give me reason to go further out into the unknown. 

Looking ahead at my next bike ride on Saturday, I think I am going to head to Fort Lauderdale and do hill workouts on the 17th Street bridge and do an out and back.  The only thing I am a little nervous about is clipping in and out of my pedals that many times in traffic.   Just the other day I un-clipped from one shoe as I approached a stop light.  I put my foot down and then I mentally forgot my other foot was still clipped.  I went to put my other foot down and started to tumble…. luckily I un-clipped before I had a slow motion embarrassing moment :)

I was never really the athletic type. Sure, I played tennis in high school (and quite well, mind you) but running CERTAINLY was never my thing!
