Day 82: The final day before the race

This is it.  The last day before the race.  There is no additional training I could do that would prepare me more than what I have spent the past 82 days doing.  That is quite comforting but a little nerve racking at the same time.  I know I am going to finish this race kicking myself for things that I COULD have done differently.  It is important that I document these things while they are still fresh in my mind so that I can learn from my mistakes and experiences….. like anything else in life.

On my schedule for today was a nice lite bike ride with a little bit of advice:

  • WU: 10 minutes @ recovery intensity
  • CD: 10 minutes @ recovery intensity
  • It’s usually better to do a very short, easy workout the day before a race than to take the day off completely

I had a nice easy ride up Sunrise and back.  About five minutes into my ride I saw a little old lady across the street fall while walking her dog.  I got off my bike and ran across the street  to help her.  She had tripped over an uneven sidewalk and ended up flat on her face.  Not a pretty site.  Broken nose, teeth, glasses, etc.  Once the ambulance arrived and I knew there was nothing else that I could do, I headed back out on my bike ride.

After that event, I had a little bit of a hard time clipping in my left pedal for some reason.  I think that when I dismounted my bike, in haste I might have screwed up an adjustment on the clips or the cleats.  I took a look but didn’t see anything wrong or out of place… hopefully it was just me. 

I spent the majority of the day fine tuning the bike and packing.   There are so many little details involved in preparing for a triathlon, it is ridiculous!  I used to think that packing for a diving trip was exhausting.  I had no idea that this would be three times as much.  Having said that, I am pumped.  I am excited.  I am ready to kick butt… or at least as much butt as I possibly can.  I only hope that when I get to the run I will begin to pass people left and right.   

We are headed to a Miami Dolphins game tonight so it will really not be an early night to bed.  Hopefully I will be completely packed before I head out to the game.  I know I will have a hard time sleeping tonight… for sure!  Until the results tomorrow….
