Duathlon Nationals? Serious or not!?

By Skip

duitAs I reflect over this long holiday weekend I am panicking at the thought of the Duathlon Nationals in October.  I have several lofty goals this year expanding into 2014 but the past 4 months have not contributed to my physical and mental conditioning for the challenges I face.  Let me rephrase that; the past 4 months have not contributed positively.  Limited workouts, bad eating habits and giving in to temptation is everything I have vocalized against over the past years.

I have been using my extended work schedule as an excuse for my limited activity, however, I remember when I first got into triathlons I ALWAYS found time to get my workouts in.  I guess I cannot use that excuse if I want to hold myself to a higher level and accomplish what I have set out to do.  I am too competitive for that and failure is not my friend.

So…. time to reach out to all of you once again and use this website to keep myself accountable as well as a written record of my goals and archiving the path to achieving them.

photoSince I last posted here, one of the big accomplishments for me, personally, was to reach the “black” level on the Nike+ App.  I have had this app by my side ever since I first started running so it is a pretty darn accurate record of the run distances I have put in.  The early part of this year helped having two marathons under my belt and all the training that went along with those.

I did get out for a run today but I tell you what, 3 miles seemed like 10 to me.  My heart rate was elevated and I really did not feel comfortable with my stride.  I realize that I need to ease back into my workout routine but I am very impatient.  I have a bad feeling I am going to do too much too quick and end up sidelined with an injury.

The extra effort I am experiencing could very well have something to do with the 14 pounds that I am currently over my race weight.  That has to come off and come off quickly.  My hardcore plan for Nationals starts later this month.  Now is the time to hunker down and get nutrition under control…. I have done it before, I can do it again!

I need to re-do my video intro for RunSkipRun and begin posting some more video blogs, so expect that in the near future.  I have some fantastic sponsors this year including a new one, Honey Stinger.  I need to give them all the exposure they deserve and carry them along in my journey as well.

Over the next few months I will be spending much more time here, posting my workouts, metrics and experiences with you on my quest to make Team USA!

So if you have read any of the blog thus far you know a little bit about me… I can not be told what to do and I push myself about as far as I can be pushed!

But how did I get here and why? Well, that is what this page is about.

I was never really the athletic type. Sure, I played tennis in high school (and quite well, mind you) but running CERTAINLY was never my thing!

The start of 2009 was big for me as I came to the realization that I had put on too much weight over the past 10 years (read more...)
