Figuring out the twitch and the itch

Today’s recovery run was rather uneventful as it was a recovery run. I ran a little longer than what I was scheduled to run (45 minutes) and kept an 8:30 pace so I could burn off some extra consumed calories.   I was 149 on the scale today, I am trying to get to 145 by December 4th….. race day.  I do have a rather big hurdle between now and then (Thanksgiving.)   Luckily I have 5K race that morning followed up by a regular run later that day, if I can manage 🙂

One thing that I noticed out on my run today is the itch that I had…. hmmm…  You know when you cut yourself and it begins to heal it gets itchy?  Ever had that happen?  That is always a sign of healing.  When I get that in the LEGS I know that I have torn my muscles up a little bit (not a bad thing) and they are healing.  It is usually pretty minor like in my case today.  That is always a good sign that you are progressing and not stagnant in your workouts.

I knew I was going to have this sensation today because yesterday I was getting that “twitch” after a harder run.  So I have the “twitch” followed by and “itch.”  Please tell me I not the only one that knows what I am talking about!

Another “itch” I have is a 200 day itch…. Escape from Alcatraz!  That’s right, there are only 200 days left of training before this race.  I can’t wait!  I literally think about this race every single day and have visualized the race many times already.  It crosses my mind on every single workout I do.

Tomorrow I will be back out for an interesting run.  I will have to try to do it early in the morning as I will be going to the Dolphins / Bears game later that night.  We will probably head to the stadium straight after work and will be getting home quite late.  Morning is my only choice.

But how did I get here and why? Well, that is what this page is about.

I was never really the athletic type. Sure, I played tennis in high school (and quite well, mind you) but running CERTAINLY was never my thing!
