Help Me Help Others

I am excited for the things that are in store for me over the next two years and 2010 through 2011 hold some very exciting challenges and even more opportunities to raise money for non-profits across the country.  I have made the commitment that every single race I run, regardless of the distance, I will be raising money for different charities and non profits that have worthy and notable causes.  I encourage and challenge you to partner with me to make a difference.

Probably my biggest challenge next year and possibly the biggest challenge of my life, will be the Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon.   For one weekend each summer, 2,000 of the world’s best triathletes assemble in San Francisco for one of the most infamous and extreme sporting events…the Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon. In its 29 years as a maximum-security prison, no one ever escaped alive from the menacing shores of Alcatraz. Every year, this popular event draws over 20,000 spectators to see who can accomplish that daunting task.

On Sunday, June 5, the Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon will be packed with heart-pounding action featuring a 1.5 mile swim through frigid, shark infested waters from Alcatraz Island to shore, a grueling 18-mile bike race, and a demanding 8-mile run through the rugged trails of Golden Gate Recreation Area. Set against the natural beauty of San Francisco, this thrilling triathlon is a virtual postcard of the City by the Bay.

I will be racing for TeamCindy and raising money for the Brain Aneurysm Foundation.  TeamCindy honors the life of Cynthia Lynn Sherwin and promotes widespread public awareness of the dangers of a ruptured brain aneurysm – the sudden and silent killer that took her life and the lives of tens of thousands each year. Cindy was a dedicated athlete, marathoner and triathlete. She was struck down at the young age of 33 while training for her first Ironman competition, Lake Placid 2007. TeamCindy enables and encourages athletes to participate in triathlon events in Cindy’s name and to raise awareness and money to continue the fight against this deadly disease through the Brain Aneurysm Foundation.

There are two different ways you can help.  The first is to directly support the cause that I will be racing for.  Currently I am looking for donations for the Alcatraz race.  If you would like to donate to this cause, please CLICK HEREand you will be directed to my profile page for the TeamCindy fundraising page.  This option will help a worthy cause AND is tax deductible.

The second way you can help is to give money to a racing fund I am setting up.  This will allow me to cover race fees, training, equipment and travel.  All of this adds up very quickly.  By giving through this method you will be helping me help numerous non-profit organizations throughout the year.

If you are interested in giving to this general fund, CLICK HERE.  Please note that this option is not tax deductible.

The last opportunity I am throwing out there is a chance to officially sponsor my races for this year and next.  There are several advantages to sponsorship including logo placements on equipment, clothing and online media.  If you are interested in this type of package, please contact me directly to discuss what would work best for you.

I thank everyone in advance for you kindness, generosity and support.  This is something I could not do without all of you behind me.

So if you have read any of the blog thus far you know a little bit about me… I can not be told what to do and I push myself about as far as I can be pushed!

But how did I get here and why? Well, that is what this page is about.

I was never really the athletic type. Sure, I played tennis in high school (and quite well, mind you) but running CERTAINLY was never my thing!

The start of 2009 was big for me as I came to the realization that I had put on too much weight over the past 10 years (read more...)
