I wish they all could be California…. RUNS!

By Skip

Wow, what a trip so far and let me tell you, I am on VACATION!  Okay, so maybe it is a working vacation but I am enjoying San Diego (Mission Bay) and the enthusiasm of other runners and bikers (and surfers!)  What a beautiful place to work out and it seems like everybody is doing it.

So that is the good news.  The bad news is that I have only done this one workout since my last one, which was on Monday.  Yikes!  Not a good sign but writing this blog post, at this particular moment I don’t care…. I am enjoying life and I am having a great time doing it.

I headed out early in the morning and instead of doing an ocean run, I ran along the the bay in Mission Bay, which is where we were staying.  I really didn’t map anything out ahead of time, which was probably not very smart of me… I just wanted to be adventurous and see where where my feet took me.  I knew I would have a beautiful view and a couple of bridges on the way as well…. Can’t really ask for anything more than that.

I ended up getting confused and almost lost.  Good thing I have a decent sense of direction.  The good thing about running with the iPhone is that I will never get lost.  With built in GPS support I will always be able to find my way back to the starting point at least.

The running paths were busy buy not overcrowded.  I really was looking for somebody I could pace with but I did all the passing.  I think if I would have headed to a beach route it would have been a little bit different.  I saw some people running there last night and some of them were running pretty fast…. even for my standard.

Well, I hope to get back out here running soon.  I have so much left to explore.  Plus, I am eating way too much and am not calorie counting right now… that can’t possibly be good!  I have to speak tomorrow morning and that is it… done working for this trip and then flying back home on Sunday.  We have  a Monday Night Football game to go to on, well, Monday (duh) after a full days worth of work so I know Monday will not be available for working out.  That’s ok, after all, it starts my “taper week.”  🙂

So if you have read any of the blog thus far you know a little bit about me… I can not be told what to do and I push myself about as far as I can be pushed!

But how did I get here and why? Well, that is what this page is about.

I was never really the athletic type. Sure, I played tennis in high school (and quite well, mind you) but running CERTAINLY was never my thing!

The start of 2009 was big for me as I came to the realization that I had put on too much weight over the past 10 years (read more...)
