If you dream it, they will race

By Skip

I woke up this morning with a smile on my face.  Last night I had a dream… a sports related dream.  This one was all about running and going up against several of the local runners on my “want to beat” list.

It started with beating one of the guys (whom I recently beat) but being disappointed to learn that the other runner was not there.  After we finished they race, low and behold, he showed up…. We ran a second race and I beat him as well.  I don’t think this indicates any type of cockiness but I think it projects more of my determination and will power.

This prompted me to look up a couple of analogies on a dream interpretation website.  I looked up running and looked up winning.  Here is what the website said about both scenarios:

  • Running
    • To dream that you are running away from someone, indicates an issue that you are trying to avoid. You are not taking or accepting responsibility for your actions. In particular, if you are running from an attacker or any danger, then it suggests that you are not facing and confronting your fears.
    • To dream that you are trying to run but cannot make your feet move as fast as you want them to, signifies lack of self-esteem and self-confidence. It may also reflect your actual state of REM paralysis during the dream state.
    • To dream that you are running alone, refers to your determination and motivation in the pursuit of your goals. You will find success and rise above those around you. Alternatively, the dream may mean that you need to hurry up in making a decision.
    • To dream that you are running with someone, signifies cooperation.
  • Win
    • To dream that you win at something, indicates that you will succeed in some task. You are experiencing new found confidence in your abilities. The dream may serve to offer you encouragement and motivation.

So now I have lived, breathed, eaten, and dreamt about triathlons and racing.  Do you think that is any sign of my commitment and competitiveness?

Speaking of dreams, if you are looking for some good music that you can run and / or workout to, try Dream Theater.   What I like most about their work is that their songs are quite lengthy and they have quite a variety of tempos and “feels.”  This allows for a mentally engaging experience while out on my “recovery” runs.  I don’t usually listen to anything while I am doing intervals or any type of workout that requires concentration.  My recovery runs are rather mindless and Dream Theater’s music is perfect mental stimulation for this type of run.

Win
To dream that you win at something, indicates that you will succeed in some task. You are experiencing new found confidence in your abilities. The dream may serve to offer you encouragement and motivation. Alternatively, the dream symbolizes a sexual conquest.

About

So if you have read any of the blog thus far you know a little bit about me… I can not be told what to do and I push myself about as far as I can be pushed!

But how did I get here and why? Well, that is what this page is about.

I was never really the athletic type. Sure, I played tennis in high school (and quite well, mind you) but running CERTAINLY was never my thing!

The start of 2009 was big for me as I came to the realization that I had put on too much weight over the past 10 years (read more...)
