Lack of cardio is killing me!

I am sick to my stomach to think that my whole year of training was thrown out the window during my recent relaxation binge.  I currently feel like I did at the beginning of the year where it was like starting all over again.  Not happy with myself at all at this point!  However, after just two days of running I am feeling better already….. amazing how running can make you feel and the stress you can burn off all at the same time.

Yesterday’s Weight: 161
Today’s Weight: 160
Goal Weight: 150

Yesterday I was able to stay under my calorie count for the day.  I am walking that thin line between weight loss, nutrition and exercise.  It is not always an easy tightrope to walk!  I am planning to be down to my goal weight by the time Thanksgiving comes around and just in time for the Tamarac Turkey Trot.  Last year, this was my fastest 5k ever at 18:23.  I was hoping to make it under 18:00 this time around but I don’t really think that is going to happen by that date.   At my current rate I think I will be able to achieve that speed maybe at the end of December.

The good part is that my 5K training plan is very intense and has me running several 13.1+ mile distances so by the time I have finished off this plan, it will be just about two weeks away from the Rock and Roll Half Marathon down in Miami.   I am looking forward to that race as there are several of my friends running in that.

My run intervals went as expected last night.  When I started running my legs felt like bricks.  Oh, and it was POURING rain.  Rain does not bother me but made me realize that I truly am committed to achieving my goals despite recent doubts of my endurance to see it through.  When I got to the 8 speed intervals I was struggling.  I could just feel that my form was really bad because I was so stiff.   This week is going to be a very tough one with lots of miles to put in.  Yesterday’s run was about 5 miles and so is today’s run.

My mind keeps going back to earlier this year where I tried to do too much too quickly and ended up injuring myself with an IT band issue.  I need to look out for the warning signs to make sure that does not happen again.

I was never really the athletic type. Sure, I played tennis in high school (and quite well, mind you) but running CERTAINLY was never my thing!
