My final race of 2011

By Skip

2011 has been filled with exciting adventures and accomplishments.  It has also posed many challenges that I was not expecting.  Just as I started the new year, I also finished my racing season with a half marathon… the Rotary Club 13.1 in Weston, Florida.   This was not a race I was going for my best time.  I used this race to help pace a friend of mine in addition to building up some distance miles for my Ragnar race in January (blog about this soon to come).

So where do I go from here?  Well, the year is not over.  I have LOTS of training to do yet and not enough days to do it in.  I am in the final 3/4 of my 5K training plan to attempt my sub 18 minute 5K in January sometime.  I am also spending my time trying to secure up my 2012 sponsors as I have some pretty key races that are very attractive to marketing teams of the products that I have passion for.  I am actually taking a new approach on sponsors this year and ONLY take on sponsors of products that I already use and believe in.

2012 will also bring on new fund raising opportunities that I will be latching onto.  There are many great causes out there and I am going to concentrate on just one or two this year to raise money for.  Once again, having the passion for that particular cause can really drive you when you are feeling the pain out on the course.

Over the next couple of days I will fill you in on my key races for next year that I have signed up for already….  I have some pretty lofty goals and I am more than ready to take them on!

So if you have read any of the blog thus far you know a little bit about me… I can not be told what to do and I push myself about as far as I can be pushed!

But how did I get here and why? Well, that is what this page is about.

I was never really the athletic type. Sure, I played tennis in high school (and quite well, mind you) but running CERTAINLY was never my thing!

The start of 2009 was big for me as I came to the realization that I had put on too much weight over the past 10 years (read more...)
