Recovery run… really? Recovery?

By Skip

I had just run last night and had plans after work today that would conflict with my running schedule so I made the effort to get up early to get my “recovery run” in.   I went to bed with a stomach ache and when I woke up , I still had it.  It took me awhile to mentally build up and head out the door.  At least I remembered my heart rate monitor today.

My legs were noticeably heavier and I was not lifting my feet as high as I normally do.  This could be dangerous when running on an uneven sidewalk while it is still dark outside!  As a matter of fact, there was a point that I slipped off a curb (that I knew was there) and almost twisted my ankle.  Luckily I did not.  This could be due to some ankle strength exercises I have been doing.

The run went fine but I could feel my body giving out a little bit. I made it through the entire distance and time but it was not one of my best outings.  When I got back, my stomach ache had kicked back in and I could not eat breakfast.  It took a couple of hours again to build up my appetite.  Very strange, as I have not experienced this before unless I was coming down with some type of cold…. oh,oh……. there are people that are out of the office due to illness.  I hope I didn’t catch anything from them!  Time to load up on the vitamin C.

By the way, I just cannot run in the prescribed Zone 2… to me, that is walking! I hope I have not chosen the wrong plan. Time will tell, I guess.

A combination of running last night and then again this morning, I have run quite a bit in a 12 hour frame.  Tomorrow morning we are getting up early to drive down to Miami and Race (walk) for the Cure at the Susan G. Komen walk at Bayside Park.

At some point I will need to get out and run later in the day.

About

So if you have read any of the blog thus far you know a little bit about me… I can not be told what to do and I push myself about as far as I can be pushed!

But how did I get here and why? Well, that is what this page is about.

I was never really the athletic type. Sure, I played tennis in high school (and quite well, mind you) but running CERTAINLY was never my thing!

The start of 2009 was big for me as I came to the realization that I had put on too much weight over the past 10 years (read more...)
