RSR 33 – A horrible bike ride – course preview

By Skip

Episode number 33 of my daily triathlon training diary….

What can I say… today was miserable!  I got up early to beat the rain and to preview the bike course here in San Francisco for the Escape from Alcatraz race on Sunday.  About halfway into the course I had to turn around due to rain.  I was not dressed properly for the cold and wetness that the day brought on.   I even managed to take a little tumble (you know, the slow motion kind.)  Sunday’s race is going to be tough… bad roads, steep hills that affect you both going up and going down.  Let’s just hope it doesn’t rain on race day!

Just an update from the video….. The day ended up being beautiful!  The bad rain we were supposed to get, well, we never got and it ended up being sunny all day long.  THIS would have been a good time to go riding… oh well!  At least I got my workout in and got a good idea of the course.

Bummer! That’s no fun!!! I’m jealous of everyone who’s already up in SF. We’re driving up first thing Friday a.m., but the weather isn’t looking cooperative. Fingers crossed for no rain! Good luck to you!

Welcome to NorCal!

I am enjoying your videos and took some solace in your description of the “slow motion fall”. Been there, done that. Mine was on the Pope Street Bridge outside of St. Helena in the wine country. Right in front of two cars of wine tourists. Good times.

I am doing the Escape as well. Best of luck to you!!!

Duane

And good luck to you!

Will you be racing as well? Yes, I hope the weather forecast improves…

About

So if you have read any of the blog thus far you know a little bit about me… I can not be told what to do and I push myself about as far as I can be pushed!

But how did I get here and why? Well, that is what this page is about.

I was never really the athletic type. Sure, I played tennis in high school (and quite well, mind you) but running CERTAINLY was never my thing!

The start of 2009 was big for me as I came to the realization that I had put on too much weight over the past 10 years (read more...)
