Say goodbye to IT Band Syndrome!

Ahhhhhh…. I didn’t think I would be reporting this today and it is such exciting news that I am not quite sure how to express myself.  It has been a long two months up until this point and I was starting to doubt that I was doing the right thing to get my body back into action for the type of running that I like to do.

Before I get into things, here was the official workout for today:

  • WU: Run 10 minutes @ moderate aerobic intensity
  • MS: Run 5 minutes @ moderate aerobic intensity
  • CD: Run 10 minutes @ moderate aerobic intensity

Today was an amazing day indeed.  If you read yesterday’s blog entry, you remember that I bought a foam roller and did some new stretches to try to work things out with this stupid IT Band syndrome. Guess what…. Something worked and something worked real good! I finished my run with absolutely no pain. The first time this year. Thank you God!

I have tried several things and I am not quite sure what worked.  The three new things that I incorporated before this run was a new stretch for the IT Band, a good solid foam roller massage the night before and some new KT tape.   Since I posted this status update on Twitter people have been flooding me with questions about what I did to solve this horrible pain.  I can’t believe how many other people also suffer from this.

I think to fully show you how I got rid of it I will use this as one of my first video blog entries.  That should get a boatload of traffic coming through here as well.  Also,  I will be cautiously excited until I get out there and do it one more time just to make sure this was not a fluke.

When I headed out on this run I decided to pick up the pace substantially as I figured I would be in pain either way.  The fact that I got back to a similar running style as before might have had something to do with it.  Also, concentrating on heart rate and breathing instead on concentrating on my knee might have also had something to do with it.  I knew I was good when I hit two miles and there was no sign of it showing up.  Whatever the solution was, I am a new person now and fully pumped for this new season.

FYI, in no way should you take into consideration that the above listed pace is my goal for the year…. This is just the first step on the road to recovery.
