So close to green but beat my personal bests

By Skip

Big day, turning green…. NOT!  Guess I miscalculated the miles I needed… have less than a mile left to achieve the green level on the Nike+ website.  Thought about heading back out and running another mile after discovering this following my upload of data.  Decided that I should wait until my next run day, which is Wednesday, which also happens to be St. Patricks day!  Seems fitting that I go green on that day!

However, I spent yesterday figuring out a good playlist to run to today that would reach one of my timed goals…. here is what I ended up with:

  • Previous personal best in the 1 mile: 8’07”
New personal best in the 1 mile: 7’58”
  • Previous personal best in the 5k: 25’06”
New personal best in the 5k: 24’17” at a pace of: 7’49”

The right playlist with the proper BPM makes all the difference!  I pulled out a playlist that was about 166-17o BPM.  I had a few people on Facebook ask me what was in my playlist, so here it is:

  • Act A Fool – Ludacris
  • Loser – Beck
  • Liar’s Dice Blues – Eric Sardinas
  • Gamma Ray – Beck
  • Pour Some Sugar on Me  Def Leppard
  • Imma Be – Black Eyed Peas

I had extra music at the end but that kept me going for a light jog once my 5K was over with.  I used a program called Cadence which is an iPhone app but also has a desktop application for analyzing Beats Per Minute (BPM) and recording them back to iTunes.  There is another program out there for the Mac that I am going to try later this week… seems to be a little more accurate than Cadence.

So next time I log in, GREEN I WILL BE!

So if you have read any of the blog thus far you know a little bit about me… I can not be told what to do and I push myself about as far as I can be pushed!

But how did I get here and why? Well, that is what this page is about.

I was never really the athletic type. Sure, I played tennis in high school (and quite well, mind you) but running CERTAINLY was never my thing!

The start of 2009 was big for me as I came to the realization that I had put on too much weight over the past 10 years (read more...)
