Swimming harder than before

By Skip

Well, it is Friday night and what do you think I did…. yep, that’s right, I headed to the pool to get my scheduled session in.  How sad is that?  It was actually pretty quiet at the pool but then again, I guess everybody else had better things to do.

For those of you following along, I basically copied my previous workout schedule four weeks out from the race and applied it to these four weeks.  I kind of feel like I have taken a step backwards but then again I am trying to personally make each workout more intense than the last time around.  I have a higher standard for my workouts now.

This was my schedule for this evening:

  • WU: 250 @ low aerobic intensity
    • 6 x 25 drills, RI=0:10
  • MS: 7 x 75 @ VO2max intensity, RI=0:45
    • 6 x 25 kick, RI=0:15
  • CD: 250 @ low aerobic intensity

I used to dread the VO2max drills but now I welcome them with open arms.  Now that I am past that hesitation factor and confidence factor, I push these drills hard.  I know that I need to reach that lactic acid level on these workouts so I can push that “ceiling” higher each time.  This will make me stronger and faster in the water!

My legs are feeling better today as well as my foot.  Tomorrow I have a 45/10 brick planned so that will be where the pain will show up, if I still have any.  I am going to try to push that brick hard keeping a race intensity pace on the bike and work on my transition sock-less (for the first time) and try to keep a 6:15-6:20 run pace.  That is going to be tough but you know I have not seem much improvement on my run since I started triathlon training…. time to get back to what I am really good at.

If you liked that post, then try these...

About

So if you have read any of the blog thus far you know a little bit about me… I can not be told what to do and I push myself about as far as I can be pushed!

But how did I get here and why? Well, that is what this page is about.

I was never really the athletic type. Sure, I played tennis in high school (and quite well, mind you) but running CERTAINLY was never my thing!

The start of 2009 was big for me as I came to the realization that I had put on too much weight over the past 10 years (read more...)
