The calm before the storm… or is it the run before the vacation?

By Skip

I realize that October 10th might be a disaster.  I have to do everything I can in order make sure I perform well.  Why is this?  Well, I am headed to San Diego to speak at an event.  I know I can always run but biking and swimming?  Well, that is another story.  Also, WILL I have time to run?  I know I must but “vacation” just might get the better of me.

Even though today was my “day off” from workouts and I put in a heavy day yesterday with the Try-A-Tri group, I wanted to get in a nice long run.

  • WU: Run 10 minutes @ moderate aerobic intensity
  • MS: Run 30 minutes @ moderate aerobic intensity
  • CD: Run 10 minutes @ moderate aerobic intensity

I did one of my regular runs and was not really interested in running too fast.  After all I had now run for four days in a row.  I think that is a personal record for me and I am a little concerned about injury.  The last time I ran consecutively I DID hurt myself so I am treading ground carefully.

I had a little bit of cramping during the run but it was late in the evening and it had cooled off considerably in addition to a strong breeze which helped.  I hope I can get at least my runs in over the next 5 or six days if not more!

I averaged about 8’30” on this run which is not bad… especially if I could hold that pace for a solid 13.1.  I can’t wait to start training for longer distances during the winter months when it is a little bit cooler here!  I think I am going to log some serious miles.  I will have to map out and plan some new routes as I don’t want to be bored after the first few times out.

So if you have read any of the blog thus far you know a little bit about me… I can not be told what to do and I push myself about as far as I can be pushed!

But how did I get here and why? Well, that is what this page is about.

I was never really the athletic type. Sure, I played tennis in high school (and quite well, mind you) but running CERTAINLY was never my thing!

The start of 2009 was big for me as I came to the realization that I had put on too much weight over the past 10 years (read more...)
