The first day back in the pool

Today was the start of the real deal….. My first triathlon is scheduled for April 23rd.  Time to get to work……

If this looks familiar from last year, well, I am using the same training plan as previously used but it will soon be mutating.  On February 14th, my Escape from Alcatraz training plan kicks in(from HyperCat Racing)…. in addition to this!  I scheduled both of them on my Training Peaks calendar and I will probably end up doing a “mesh” of workouts to best suit my future desired results.  With the injuries I currently have I don’t really know what I will be able to do or NOT do.

Here was my scheduled swim workout for tonight:

  • WU: 200 @ low aerobic intensity
    • 6 x 25 drills, RI=0:10
  • MS: 4 x 100 @ moderate aerobic intensity, RI=0:05
    • 4 x 25 kick, RI=0:15
  • CD: 200 @ low aerobic intensity

Just for a refresher, WU=Warm Up, MS=Main Set and CD=Cool Down.  I apologize if I just insulted the intelligence of some seasoned professionals out there but I always have to remember there are newcomers that are just getting into the swing of things and I, being there once myself, I don’t want to talk over anybody’s head and assume things.

So what can I say about my first day back of getting wet?  Well, this was the first real pool workout in four months!  I forgot quite a bit and forget about the two beat kick that I had learned!  I was just happy to get through things, quite honestly.  I kept everything nice, slow and easy as I was not sure how  my body and more specifically my knee and foot would feel.  I can tell swimming will be good for my recovery!

Things that I forgot how to do…

  • Count laps (duh!)
  • How to place the goggles on my face (had them upside down for about 30 seconds and was wondering why they were leaking so bad)
  • Two beat kick

That’s it… other than that, everything felt pretty good… pretty SLOW but pretty good.  It was nice to see my endurance was still there and I don’t think it will take to much to get things in full swing again…. WHEW!

Sigh…this is indeed motivating bc yesterday I looked at the pool and then decided to go spin. I have an indoor 4.3 sooooooo maybe next week

But how did I get here and why? Well, that is what this page is about.

I was never really the athletic type. Sure, I played tennis in high school (and quite well, mind you) but running CERTAINLY was never my thing!
