These runs are kicking my butt!

I had doubts about being able to run today.  All day long my foot was hurting from the blister.  By the time I got home everything felt a little better.  I had an energy bar a couple of hours before leaving work so I would be able to run before eating dinner……  I am getting better at this…..  Well, maybe.  Here was my scheduled workout.

  • WU: Run 10 minutes @ Pace Zone 2 (Low Aerobic)
  • MS:10 x 60 seconds @ Pace Zone 10 (Speed) w/ 3-minute recoveries @ Pace Zone 2
  • CD: Run 5 minutes @ Pace Zone 2

To get through this, I had to wear a blister band-aid and socks. It was kind of strange wearing socks again.  Almost felt like there was not enough room in my shoe.  Somehow, no matter how painful, I needed to be able to get through this workout.

I really didn’t want to miss out on this one as I knew it would be a test of how I would fare during this workout plan. Let me tell you, it was tough!  Everything was going just fine until I got towards the end of my workout.  When I got to the last mile and a half or so, I started to get cramps again. Not hydrated enough, I think… or a nutrition thing which I have been thinking about exploring a little bit more.

By the time I had finished and struggled to get home, I ended up having no appetite for dinner.  At about 10pm I was able to muster up enough of an appetite for Cheerios and yogurt.  I needed about 900 more calories for the day but there was no way that my stomach was going to cooperate.

My intervals were fast but I could have done better had I felt 100%.  As you can see from the above charted data, I forgot my heart rate monitor on this run.  By the time I had realized it I was well on my way and I could not turn back to get it.  30 second intervals not so bad… one minute intervals, well, much tougher.  I can’t wait to see what is next.

I was never really the athletic type. Sure, I played tennis in high school (and quite well, mind you) but running CERTAINLY was never my thing!
