Weekend race anticipation

By Skip

I am heading into this weekend mentally and physically prepared… or as much as I can be.  This last week of training has kind of been all over the place but I have been able to keep up what I think is a decent schedule.

I took Tuesday as my day off as that was suppose to be my swim day and I had just done my open water training the previous day.  Monday was suppose to be my day off.  So swapping those two around was no big deal plus I got a lot more out of my open water swim than I would EVER have gotten out of a pool session.

For Wednesday, it was raining out when we got home so I did my bike indoors.  I stuck to the plan and did about an hour on the bike with two 12 minute threshold drills.  My legs were really sore when I finished so I knew I had done a good job.  I could also feel my heart-rate soar so, once again, I did as much as I could given the weather outside.

As I move closer to this weekend I feel slightly under-prepared as I really wanted to concentrate on my transitions and work on a few other techniques which I was never really able to get around to.  I will have about a month in between races after Sunday so I will have time to do all of that then.  In addition, I want to start running and biking sock-less so I can reduce some of my transition time as well.  What is everybodys thoughts on that?  I also need to concentrate on some more strength training as I think my upper body is what is my weakness for the swim.

For all of you Broward County bikers, I was in a bike store and came across a map that I had thought about creating… I never knew it existed.  It is the Broward County Bicycle Suitability Map and shows all of the safe roads to bike on in Broward County!  It is an excellent resource for creating a safer route, which I am always looking for.  Their website is http://bike.browardmpo.org  That leads you to the “Bike Broward Interactive Bicycle Trip Planning” website.

I am probably going to swap my next two workouts around… I have a run and a swim left.  On Friday night we are going to the Miami Dolphins game so I had better put my run on that day as I think time will be short and I won’t be able to get to the pool in the time frame that they are open.  At least with the run I can do it anytime of day.  Who else is racing this weekend?  Who is coming the the Miami Nice triathlon with me?

So if you have read any of the blog thus far you know a little bit about me… I can not be told what to do and I push myself about as far as I can be pushed!

But how did I get here and why? Well, that is what this page is about.

I was never really the athletic type. Sure, I played tennis in high school (and quite well, mind you) but running CERTAINLY was never my thing!

The start of 2009 was big for me as I came to the realization that I had put on too much weight over the past 10 years (read more...)
